A significant upgrade over the previous tier. The wheel is still gear driven, still very plastic, but it has Force Feedback, which is going to make a difference. Also, you gain three pedal set, so there is a clutch. If you want to actually use it though, take a look at the next tier, which adds a compatible shifter.

Like when switching from go-kart to superkart, by buying this tier, you gain a shifter. Granted, it is a bit too plastic, like the wheel, but it works, so you can finally put this clutch pedal to good use. The shifter is only a h-patter one, but you can mod it to be also a sequential if you wish. If you do not care about a shifter (e.g. you prefer Formula or GT races), skip to the next tier to gain belt drive wheel.

Finally, we throw gear driven wheels into the bin and look at belt driven ones. Expect to have less noise and feel more detailed feedback from the wheel. There are compromises however - say goodbye to the shifter and the clutch pedal. If you want both belt drive and a shifter, take a look at the next tier.

Less compromises, more flexibility. We still have this sweet belt driven wheel, but now we get back our clutch pedal and the shifter. As a bonus, shifter now supports sequential mode out of the box. If you can stretch your budget just a tiny bit though, consider upgrading to the next tier which includes load cell brake pedals, that would improve your consistency while braking significantly.

Belt driven wheel, load cell pedals and a double purpose shifter. There is not much to complain about here, it starts to get serious. As the name suggests, you can easily try online races now. But beware - the 'poor gear' excuse at the end of the race now holds quite poorly! Going past this tier, the improvements will be less obvious and should not improve your consistency that much. However, the next tier upgrades you to direct drive wheel, which should improve immersion a lot.

We are starting to get serious - say hello to a direct drive wheel! This is a cheapest available DD wheelbase on the market now, but it should not be that much different from the way more expensive options. The major difference is the torque, which is 5 Nm by default, but there is a Boost Kit that ups that to 8 Nm. Look at the next tier if you are interested. We also switch the ecosystems from Thrustmaster to Fanatec along the way, gaining the possibility to attach many different wheels to the wheelbase. Look for a round wheel (like the CSL Elite WRC) to try rally, drift, classic and street cars. Formula-style wheel (like the CSL Elite McLaren GT3 V2) would work best for GT and Formula races.

Very similar to the previous tier, but adds the Fanatec Boost Kit for the wheelbase, which allows for 8 Nm of torque. That is high enough to provide you very fine details regarding the car balance and/or the track surface for example, without taking away the immersion by lowering the torque in harder corners. However beware, as this starts to be also high enough not hurt your hands in case of a crash, better start to practice taking hands of the wheel in such case!

For this tier, we upgrade the pedals to the highest possible option in the Fanatec ecosystem. Expect fine build quality, sturdy construction and many upgrade options. One of the interesting ones is the vibration motor connected to the brake pedal that can activate e.g. when ABS turns on to increase immersion and provide additional feedback. Expect a bit lower value, compared to CSL LS pedals, as the cost is almost twice. Consider spending a bit more to go to the next tier which includes Heusinkveld Sprint pedals which seem to be in another league.

As r/simracing always concludes when people discuss different sim racing pedal sets, 'buy once, cry once'. Here is exactly that approach presented in the pedal set selection. You may wonder why they cost almost the half of the whole rig. The reason is that pedals are the most important piece of hardware regarding your consistency. Stiff, well machined pedal set with load cell brake will help you be consistent with your inputs and - along with some practice and skill of course - win every race.

After Heusinkveld, we now start to embrace more the niche brands of sim racing, moving along from Fanatec to Simagic, who developed the wheel and wheelbase for this rig. Say hello to better quick release system, 10 Nm of torque and build quality improvements. Is it worth additional money though? It is up to you to decide of course.

Oh, so you are too fancy to reconfigure your shifter back and forth from the H-pattern mode to sequential mode? You are exactly in the right spot then, welcome to the DTM tier! Sit in the rig and enjoy that sweet Aiologs sequential shifter. We use the TH8A for the H-patter shifter here, mostly due to its great value and its universal USB connection. See the next tier for more fancy, dedicated H-patter shifter.

This particular tier if for H-pattern shifters enthusiasts, as it replaces the TH8A with Frex HSHIFT. The shifter is now shorter and better built. Interestingly, the shifter comes with the possibility to link it with the clutch pedal - like in the real car. That should prevent you from changing the gear without pressing the clutch, which should help to increase the immersion.

OK, this is getting out of hand now. Or out of feet? Because we are upgrading the pedals and they cost twice as much now. Are they twice as good? I think someone needs to check. You get ultimate bragging rights now though, because it is hard to find a more expensive pedal set. Look higher for even more bragging rights.

Goodbye Simagic, hello Simucube! By now, you should really start to take your hands off the wheel while crashing now. We just upgraded from 10 Nn torque wheelbase to 25 Nm one. Do you like your thumbs? If not so much, take a look at the next tier for even more ridiculous 32 Nm of torque.

The most basic tier. Buy this only if your budget is very limited. This tier consists of just Thrustmaster T80 gear driven wheel, which has no Force Feedback, there is only a bungee cord mechanism that returns the wheel to starting position. Consider spending more on the next tier to get Force Feedback, even if you do not know how serious this is going to get.
